VLC has 14 staff, including 10 highly trained transport planning professionals, 2 research and development staff, and 2 administrative staff. Profiles of two key staff members is given below.

Mike Veitch - Managing Director

Mike Veitch Mike Veitch is responsible for the development of the company's proprietary travel behaviour software (VLC-Zenith) and the establishment of model simulations in support of VLC's planning activities.

His qualifications include Bachelor of Engineering (Civil), University of Leeds, 1970, and Master of Science (Transport) - Distinction, University of Leeds, 1972.
  • Experience
    • Mike has had over 30 years of experience in the transport field - including 18 years as a consultant, four years as Head of Planning and Research with the Metropolitan Transit Authority (Brisbane) and three years as the Senior Transport Planner, Transport Department, Hong Kong. He has also presented transport lecture courses at Swinburne College, the University of Queensland and at the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design (under the sponsorship of the World Bank) largely concerned with the transport modelling process and its contribution to the broader planning process.
  • Transport Planning
    • Mike has also managed major urban transportation planning studies throughout Australia, in Asia and the UK. His experience relates to all areas of transport planning.

      Mike has had extensive experience in the area of public transport policy formulation, as well as the detailed, 'hands on' rationalisation of transit systems. He also has extensive experience in road network planning at both strategic and local levels. In many ways Mike is unique in transportation planning circles in Australia, having a major role in model and associated software development as well as being involved in a range of major transport planning studies on a day to day basis.

Terry Scholes - Senior Consultant

Terry Scholes Terry Scholes has been a Senior Consultant for Veitch Lister Consulting Pty. Ltd since 1993. His qualifications include a BE (Civil), University of Melbourne, M.Eng.Sci (Transport), University of Melbourne.
  • Experience
    • Terry has a long, well established background in transport planning, with over 30 years of experience, including 22 years as a consultant, and 8 years as a senior transport planner for the Ministry of Transport, Victoria, and the Metropolitan Transport Authority. Terry's experience encompasses all areas of the transport planning field, with particular emphasis on public transport planning, policy and operations, and special event planning.
  • Public Transport Planning
    • Terry's 30 years of experience include the management and conduct of numerous strategic public transport studies. They cover public transport policy formulation, fare and pricing policy development as well as more specific and detailed rationalisation of urban transit systems. His skills cover local area bus planning, feeder-line haul bus systems, light rail and heavy rail operations and ferries and associated fare policies.

      He has also had a heavy involvement in the planning of community bus services and "equal access" services for the disadvantaged.
  • Special Event Planning
    • Terry was responsible for the development of transport strategies to support both Melbourne's and Sydney's Olympic Games bids. He was also engaged in the planning and design of pedestrian facilities for Sydney's Year 2000 Olympic Stadium and other facilities for the Games.
