2011 Passenger Demand Forecasts for Queensland Rail
The objective of this study was to forecast the demand for passenger rail services in the Brisbane metropolitan area for 2011, to subsequently estimate the effects on rail patronage of various operating strategies (eg. express services versus skip stop and all stop services), test the effects of metropolitan wide pricing strategies (eg. parking charges, fuel prices), and examine the potential of a number of rail network expansion options (eg. New rail lines to Greenbank, CAMCOS, Coolangatta, etc).
The analysis produced detailed time of day rail patronage forecasts (eg. in 15 minute time slots in the peak periods) for 2006, 2011, 2016 and 2021.
The results produced provided QR with the wherewithal to develop new timetables, and assess future infrastructure and rollingstock requirements as a basis for contractual discussions with Queensland Transport.
