Gateway Motorway Concept Planning

VLC provided the travel forecasting and planning components of this study for the Queensland Department of Main Roads.

The Gateway Motorway is a vital link to the port of Brisbane to and from all regional centres in south east Queensland. It also serves as a high speed metropolitan route between the Brisbane CBD and the outer suburbs and regional bypass of the City. VLC were primarily involved in developing an appropriate transport solution that would:

  • maximise the capacity of the Motorway,
  • minimise environmental and cultural/heritage impact,
  • maintain or improve safety, and
  • maintain amenity on the surrounding local network.

VLC applied the Zenith model to test various alternative six (6) and eight (8) lane configurations such as HOV and freight lanes. We also tested the feasibility of a diversion through the Brisbane Airport which would separate local and regional traffic and provide more traffic management options.
