Long Term Needs of the Warrego Highway
This overall project contained two components:
- A 55 kilometre section of national Highway between Withcott (immediately east of Toowoomba) and Minden on the Moreton-Esk border, and
- A 15 Kilometre section of the Highway between Minden and the Brisbane Valley Highway.
The purpose of the study was to develop the long term needs of the corridor over the full 70 kilometre length, and specifying:
- the long term scale of the facility (and land requirements)
- the future intersection and interchange locations,
- the form of the future interchanges,
- provisions for public transport, pedestrian and cycle facilities,
- an access management strategy, and
- a staging plan for roadworks
The study examined the attributes and existing operating conditions and safety aspects of the corridor and established its full range of deficiencies. The structure of the future land use was examined to determine the preferred arterial access strategy. This also considered the emergency access for neighbouring land use under flood conditions.
Functional requirements were developed from the overall concept alternatives, from the capacity requirements, operational needs and ancillary requirements.
