The project was the research into and evaluation of the macro-dynamic traffic modelling package OtMadam, for the transport modelling company Veitch Lister Consulting (VLC). The goal of this project was to evaluate the value of, and build up an understanding of the model. OtMadam was developed by a company called OmniTRANS from the Netherlands. OtMadam aims to bridge the gap between macroscopic and microscopic traffic assignment methods. It does this by propagating flow through the network in a dynamic fashion like microscopic models, but instead of modelling individual vehicles, it represents the traffic as a fluid. Because of this simplification it can be applied to large networks, with a comparable amount of road information and calibration as typical macroscopic models.
