Transport Strategies and Local Area Mobility Plans

In this project VLC addressed both the strategic and local issues associated with the transport needs of Whitsunday Shire and in particular, Proserpine and Airlie Beach.
In the context of the strategic issues VLC:

• determined a road hierarchy for the Shire of Whitsunday,
• identified potential areas of concern associated with future development outside Proserpine and Airlie Beach and their environs.

At the detailed local level, VLC prepared:

• a detailed road hierarchy, major cycle/pedestrian network, public transport and parking strategies for Proserpine and Airlie Beach,
• detailed parking and kerbside utilisation strategies for Main Street, Proserpine and for Shute Harbour Road, Airlie Beach,
• detailed local area management plans for specific precincts in Proserpine and Airlie Beach.

VLC also carried out an extensive consultation process with the Whitsunday community to obtain "feedback" on alternative strategies and to ensure a sense of community ownership of these strategies.
