Multi-modal Travel Demand Forecasting
This comprehensive modelling software allows detailed time-period modelling of both private and public transport. Integrated models can be used to estimate car and truck flows as well as a wide range of public transport data including trip patterns, boardings and alightings and load profiles.

Strategic Road Network Planning & Policy
The Company was initially founded to provide expert assistance to all levels of Government in the development of metropolitan wide and local area road network strategies. This is still a focus of the company’s activities but the approaches since developed by the company are much more sophisticated with the development of the Zenith model and its recognition of the interactions between road network strategy, public transport strategy and overarching policy issues.

Public Transport Planning & Policy
The senior company staff have over 25 years experience individually, in public transport planning and policy at Federal, State and Local Government levels as well as with individual public transport providers. This experience encompasses all public transport modes including the increasingly important issue of access modes. Veitch Lister’s ability to contribute to the planning of public transport services is significantly enhanced by the availability of the Zenith multi-modal travel demand model which provides unprecedented insights into the interactions between other transport modes and within the public transport sector itself.

Toll Roads Revenue & Demand Forecasting
VLC has extensive specialist experience in the forecasting of traffic demands on roads with tolls. VLC has recently developed new toll modelling algorithms and procedures. These algorithms put VLC at the forefront of travel demand forecasting on toll roads. VLC's toll modelling capabilities now far surpass anything seen before in Australia.

Road Development Contribution Assessments
State Governments and Local Councils, faced with stringent funding constraints but with increasing demands for road space, have been forced into seeking development-specific contributions from developers which reflect the additional demands placed on road networks. The conceptual framework for assessing contributions developed by VLC and incorporated into the Zenith model has been widely accepted in Queensland and northern New South Wales.

Traffic Engineering
The primary objective for traffic engineers is to provide safe and efficient transport systems. VLC provides a traffic engineering service experienced in the planning, design and analysis of such systems. Detailed thought must be given to network planning issues if an efficient transport system is to be developed. VLC has a wealth of experience in planning functional road hierarchies.

Land-Use / Transport Planning
There are two aspects to this stream of activity. There is, on the one hand, the self-evident effect of land-use changes on the call for transport facilities; on the other hand, there is the less evident, more subtle effect of the provision of transport services on changes in land-use. VLC has conducted significant studies of both effects in Melbourne and Brisbane.
